Season Report 2012

In March we did not know if there would be enough water in the lake after draining and cleaning operations had been carried out. It so happened that the lake was full enough for racing to begin.

There were a total of nine race events for the league with a total of two discards allowed. The winner of each event was awarded fifty points and the second 49 and so on. So consistency was the order of the day, and to attend as many events as possible. We aim for sixteen races in an event thus allowing for three discards. The management of these races and the timely completion of each event are now working like clockwork. We initially introduced an egg timer to give a clear indication of the gap between each heat and lunch, and on the ringing of the egg timer the next race would commence.

The positions for third fourth and fifth were changing all the time but Paul Risdale eventually made it to fourth with Graham Tite third and John Meredith fifth.

On recollection the most amazing thing about this year was the lack of wind at our league events, with my big yellow sail turning up in all the photographs.

During the year we had visits from skippers from Birmingham Model Yacht Club, and Clevedon Model Yacht Club amongst others, all visiting skippers are most welcome and added to the variety of racing experience.
It must be said that there has always been a happy and helpful attitude of all attending skippers, and we wish this to continue this in the future.

What of the future, well we have various problems with the Committee of the current host club, the racing skippers have decided to  set up a different club in the centre of Northampton. We will be known as the ‘Abington Park Model Yacht Club’ and will generally sail on a Sunday. The Footy League will be become the ‘Midland Footy League’, and we invite all skippers to join us next year at our Open Competition the ‘Bassett Lowke Open’, as well as for the Midland League Events.
