Event Rules

The 2009 Footy class rules will apply with respect to boat construction, and in light wind conditions competitors will be asked to measure their largest sail against the 2014 UK Big Rig Template.

Ensure that your sail numbers are correctly displayed and that your boat will be capable of passing the box test as defined in the Footy rules.

Please ensure that none of the ancillary equipment mounted on the deck protrudes above the top of the box as described in the primary measuring rule B and that the sails are capable of travelling through their full movement without touching the top of the box.

The MYA formal rules for the racing will be the RRS 2013-2016 modified by the 2014 MYA Standard Sailing Instructions /Link/ as applied to radio controlled boats. However, don’t feel intimidated, these rules are basically full size boat rules and will be modified on the day to suit the Footy boat and local weather conditions. Local sailing instructions will be announced at the Race Officer’s briefing before the start of competition.

Your MYA membership card or equivalent evidence of insurance should be made available to the Race Officer if requested.

The Race Officer will be either Peter Shepherd, Peter Jackson or a person nominted by them and all events are managed by Abington Park MYC whatever the venue.

Registration and measurement checks will start at 9.00am.

The briefing will be at 9.30am followed by a practice race and then the first race due to commence shortly afterwards. The final race starting at no later than 3pm, any race not completed by 3.30pm will be abandoned. For clarification it is not our intention to complete 16 races and then stop racing but to keep racing through the time period stated.

The entry fee will be £3:00 to be paid on the day at registration. Advanced payment is not necessary.

Scoring
Acts
The scoring for each Act will not be based upon the low point scoring system, the races will be scored as follows:
1st-10pts, 2nd-9pts, etc 10th place or below 1pt. The final race of the day will be declared before commencing and this will score double points.
All races in the Act will count towards the final score and there will be no discards, sufficient reasonable time will be allowed for competitors to change equipment and should they suffer an equipment failure replace or repair it. If a skipper is unable to continue racing within a reasonable time he may request redress which will be given at the discretion of the event organisers.
It is our intention to keep a running score as the racing progresses which will be made available to view.

The winner of each ACT will receive an Extreme Footy Series Trophy.

Extreme Footy Series
The competitors best scores for six Acts will score points towards the Series Championship and the scoring will be as follows:
1st-10pts, 2nd-9pts, etc 10th place or below 1pt

Courses
It is our intention to run compact “stadium” style courses with multiple mark rounding and short windward/leeward legs, hopefully each heat time being aproximately 10 minutes, it may be necessary to amend our plans depending upon wind and event conditions.

Above & Beyond Award
At each event the organisers will select somebody in attendance who they feel deserves to recieve the Above & Beyond Award, it is intended that it should be presented to the person who best personifies great sportmanship, however it is not limited to this and could be awarded to a skipper showing the greatest sign of improvement or indeed to the first time Footy skipper who puts in a great performance.
Dead Tree Trophy  Kindly presented by Trevor Thomas
Following on from last year we will once again be awarding the Dead Tree Trophy, this will be awarded to the skipper who achieves the highest placing at the end of the season sailing a Footy hull not made either by forming over a plug or using a mould process. The idea behind this is to encourage some diversity within the competition and for skippers to try to build their own hulls.
For skippers of 1299's or ICE, it does not mean that moulded or vacuum formed hulls are excluded from competing, merely that their results will not be eligible towards the Dead Tree Trophy,
they will of course count towards the competition overall.
It remains to be seen what effect ,if any, this idea will have upon the  MFL competition it is our hope that it will produce some closer racing and encourage skippers to try new idea's and hull forms creating a greater diversity within the MFL fleet. It is not our intention to try to promote the format beyond the MFL, as it is our belief that the Footy Class as a whole should remain a pure development class.
