South Midlands Footy League - July Results
hosted by Wicksteed Park
report by Peter Jackson

The June Footy South Midland League, was a day of subtle wind changes and strong 20mph winds. All skippers went down several sizes of sails with the Ice's of Jackson and Shepherd going down to a Stollery C rig, with the A+ rig as the self imposed max size.

The course was set with a windward leeward marks and a start finish in the center of the two marks. The initial course was set with two laps, but this
was proving a little long so the second lap was truncated missing out the windward mark on the second circuit, and picking a shorter course around the windsock and finishing downwind.

Good starts were called for on the day with most making port starts with the odd one on starboard, thus making the rest of the fleet scatter to avoid contact.

Syd Symms brought the latest see through Henderson 1299 Mk 9 footy. Syd was still working the boat up and tried various combinations of Swing and Una Rig Sails.

John Meredith changed from the venerable White Knight design to the Half Pint Footy and started to show some promise. However he just needed that slightly smaller sail between the two he had to really make a go of it.

The struggle between the two Peters Messers Shepherd and Jackson continues with Jackson finding it increasingly hard to beat Shepherd

Graham Tite with his Posh Sails Henderson 1299 was struggling a bit today with minor ailments effect his performance.

Peter Shepherd suffered a mast failure on his 'C' rig in Race 11 and had to continue with the smaller 'D' rig. However this was not a major problem other than
the Jackson Ice had him downwind.
