2016 Footy Champions League

Picture
You may just have noticed that the title of this page has changed,  it is our intention to try to include all of the skippers sailing in the class in this years Championship. Our hope is that by including the many club championships within the competition we can present a better picture of what happens within the Footy class to a wider audiance and thereby hope to encourage wider participation with these fantastic little yachts.

This will necessitate a change in the scoring system and points will count from the following competitions The Footy Nationals, any three Footy Opens highest points to count and four club league races the points between club races and open competitions will be interchangeable, however these will not be transferable to the National Event.
The following clubs have agreed to provide the results information for their club events, Abington Park MYC (XFS), Birmingham MYC, Cheddar Steam Club, Frensham Pond MYG & Sandwell MBC.

Club Reports
The points scoring is as follows
Club Events:- Maximum Points 4 to 7 races - 90, 8 to 15 Races - 95, Sixteen+ Races - 100
.
Open Competitions:- Maximum points - 120
National Competition:- Maximum points - 150

For all qualifying events, the number of points awarded to each competitor shall be calculated on the basis that any event winner scores maximum points. Each successive place position scores a proportionate amount of the maximumpoints.  The differential between each place, and the last place score, is calculated as the maximum points divided by the number of competitors.  The points in the published Champions League tables shall be displayed to one decimal place.

With the support of Roger Stollery the Novice Competition will also continue, trophies will be awarded to the highest placed Novice at each of the Footy Opens, however the overall prize will be awarded to the highest placed skipper within the Champions league competiton.

2016 Race Report

It's been a great season of Footy Events which is sadly now at a close, the standard of sailing in this class keeps growing from year to year making it tough to be up there all the time. 2016 saw us go to three new venues, the delightful Portishead Marina courtesy of Woodspring for the Mad March Hare, Cotswolds Jetty is now repaired.
Another warm welcome in the South West at Cheddar Steam Club which turned out to be one of my favourite events, Brian Issacs was sadly too ill to attend however hopefully he is now repaired also!
and the final event of the year Hollowell Toe Jamboree where Peter Jackson retained the Cadenhead Trophy, once again another friendly venue.

The same two skippers appear in the winners photograph again this year, sorry about that, however I predict that 2017 will see a change, John Burgoine shrugged off his Novice status very early in the year and even more prestigious talent appears to be coming through the ranks of the leading clubs.

Hopefully you have enjoyed keeping up with your position in the Champions league, with the restructuring of the calendar in 2017, hopefully the Footy National Championship will come to mean more as the last event in the league, with the final event being an invitational shoot out between the top 20 skippers so those of you on the cusp of the top 20, better get to some more events, or try a little harder! If the format had been running this year Birmingham MYC would have had the largest group invited which is very much testament to the active club scene a Sutton.

I must mention the efforts that Keith Parrott has put in this year, organising his racing at Frensham Pond and along with Graham Whitehead furnishing much of the fleet with Rogers still very competitive ICE design, Fat Boy is getting a bit worn out after two going on three hard seasons and so something new is on the table hopefully we can have it ready for the start or 2017.
