2015 Footy Novice Competition

Once again Sail Footy UK will be running the "NovICE" competiton within the Footy Open League in 2015, results throughout the year will be added to a table and the winner of this league will be award the fantastic prize of a fully RTR ICE and a set of swing rig sails.
I ask you! what other competition gives you one of it's top racing models as a prize?

All you have to do is turn up and race which you were going to do anyway, right!

To qualify to win this amazing prize you must have entered a miniumum of five of the eight Footy Open League events. The scoring will be the same as for the Footy Open league, 10 points for an event win, 9 for second and so on down to 1 point for every competitor finishing tenth or lower, the best six of the eight Footy open competition scores to count towards your total.

Mike Ewart made good use of his NovICE prize in 2015 winning the XFS Series and two Footy Opens this years competition has been less well attended however Trevor Thomas has collected enough entries and won two of the five NovICE qualifying events he has entered. A stallwart of the footy scene he has been generally sailing a carbon Slim it took some time to get to grips with the change to a diagonal boat and by implementing a few suggestions he now has a very sailable Footy.

2015 Venue Review

Sunday 8th February 2015

Picture
The season opener is Freds Big Toephy, it is held at Abbey Meads home of Guildford MYC. Just off the A330, the venue is a large open expanse of water, access to which is down steps and with a jetty launch, if the weather is bad stout footwear is advised. Whilst the facilities are a little limited the welcome is always enthusiastic and with some of the best Footy skippers in the local fleet and in attendance, the observant novice skipper can gain much useful information in how to set up and sail their yachts to best effect.

Saturday 14th March 2015

The Mad March Hare is held at another great venue in the Cotswolds, last year Rob Vice added his name to the list of past winners who will it be this year.
The access to the water at South Cerney is via a purpose made jetty, the view from the bank is good and as is usual I am sure the Cotswold MYC will put on their customary welcome.

The Videlo Globe is once again being held at Frensham Ponds, Surrey this year one of the nices venues on the circuit. The event is being hosted by Frensham Ponds MYG part of the Frensham Ponds Sailing Club. The access to the water is good with launching level to the waters edge, and competitors have use of the sailing club facilities including the clubhouse. Once again the water is a large expanse which should make for some intersting racing.

The 2015  Footy National Championship and Junior Championship returns to Watermead for 2015. With it's central location and Clive Bardell and his excellent team in charge we can be assured of a great days racing for the honour of being the first MYA Footy National Champion.

Watermead is a wide expanse of water on the edge of Aylesbery with good access to the water and a raised bank from which to race a launching pole is advised.

The Bassett Lowke Trophy takes place on the first of the three purpose built model boating lakes on the calender, Abington Park is a picturescue town centre park in which the model boating lake stands. Access is good with a path all around the water, parking is roadside and free although about 200 yards away from the  sailing area. A much smaller venue it is plenty big enough for Footy racing and the close proximity of the general public means Abington Park MYC  often get a small crowd of spectators in attendance.

The Birmingham Open takes place at Powells Pool, Sutton Sailing Club, and is hosted by Birmingham MYC there is a well appointed clubhouse which overlooks the sailing area, it boasts tea making facilities and toilets. The sailing area is a gravel path alongside the lake and this is level with the waters edge. There is likely to be a strong attendance of the local skippers as this is the home of the 1299, which always makes for some fun.

The Cadenhead Trophy is probably the oldest of the Footy trophies with hosts Southwater Dabblers having sailed Footies at their club since 2004. The club have been staunch supporters of the Footy class over the years however tide and time wait for no man and the club felt it was time that the trophy moved on to pastures anew. We are pleased to anounce the trophy and competition have been elevated to Met & Southern District Championship status with Clapham MYC agreeing to host the competition for the first time.

The season finale is the Bournville Open, held in the last of the purpose built model boating lakes, once again the access is good with a path around the  entire perimeter and this historic club boasts a clubhouse full of interesting yachts as well as the usual tea and toilet facilities. As is usual with city centre site the wind is somewhat more unpredictable here which can give a range of interesting conditions over the distance of even a smaller Footy course. In 2015 it has also  been given a wider recognition by the MYA being awarded Midland District Championship status.
