I am pleased to say Tuesday 4th April was a very productive and enjoyable days sailing for all the MYG Members at the Pond.
The Club April Foolty Footy event Attracted 5 entries, I think there may have been a couple more, including myself but there was a lot going on the day. The course was set with the help of Roger Stollery and was a bit unusual. The start/finish line was set between the piers at the west end of the bank giving a reach out to the first bouy where a port rounding took the boats to the windward mark which was up by the club house. The turbulent westerly wind round the club house made turning the mark quite a challenge before a run back to the first mark for a second lap. At the end of the second run the first bouy was rounded to starboard followed by a reach to the finish between the piers.
6 races were run giving one discard. Graham Whitehead continued with his overall good sailing form and won 4 races challenged by Roger who won the other 2. Steve Hill was using his own sails on a borrowed hull, (we’ve all done it left a key bit of kit on the bench). The surprise result goes to Jim Phillips sailing a borrowed Footy for the first time, placing 3rd overall, Whilst Frank Wood was having reliability problems only finishing 2 of the 6 races.
Can we encourage Jim to join up and play Footy with us? Does Steve need a copy of my aid memoire? Can Frank sort out his reliability problems in time for the Videlo on Sunday. How will Graham fair against the hot Footy skippers from the midlands. Come along on Sunday and give support and watch the fun.
The Footy the boat that has it all.
Here are the results of the Frensham April Foolty Footy event on 4th April 2016.
Place and score after 6 races and 1 discard.
Place Name Boat score
1st Graham Whitehead ICE 6
2nd Roger Stollery SUPER BUG 8
3rd Jim Phillips ICE 12
4th Steve Hill ICE 19
5th Frank Wood ICE 26
As you can see the results of Graham and my efforts in producing ICE hulls has almost made it a one design event, the up side is the Footy fleet at Frensham has doubled.
