Frensham Great Pond is a delightful venue with car parking close to the water, and a warm and welcoming club house where drinks and lunches to buy will be available most of the day.
The warm welcome from the local skippers was most pleasurable as there was a distinct chill in the air with the Northnortheasterly wind blowing from across the lake. Race Officer Roger Stollery set a good upwind downwind course,  the start line was between a pole on the bank and a windward buoy this getting stretched as the wind shifted around.
The
port tack starters were especially favoured as this end was to windward and the stiff offshore breeze meant it was quite hard to get it true, we then had a starboard rounding upwind and then a spreader and back downwind to a gate where initially the port mark was favoured by most as this allowed a closer tack back to the first mark. During the afternoon the course was changed to  a port rounding to a closer mark which then tracked back over the course three times, this closer mark allowed for a better choice to be made at the gate and the starboard mark then came into it's own, however to get the best out of it it was necessary to starboard tack back away from the sailing area crossing the path of the port tackers.

Peter Shepherd (65, Fat Boy) started off with four race wins and then kept the pressure on the the other skippers all day by keeping himself in the top three places throughout the event. David Wilkinson (46, Breithorn) had a couple of purple patches the one before lunch looked as if he would set up a challenge to Peter Shepherd in the afternoon session, however as it turned out this wasn't to be. Peter Jackson (30, Fat Boy Slim) sought sanctuary by using one size larger sails than the two skippers in front, however this meant he wasn't able to sail such a tight line between marks. An honourable mention must go to Frank Wood (17, ICE) sailing Roger Stollery's boat who in his first race meeting of any kind finished a very creditable fourth and took home the Nov"ICE" skipper prize.
Keith Parrott (31, ICE) finished fifth although I am sure that it would have been much closer had Frensham Pond MYG chairman Charles Smith (00, ICE) not retired to take over the scoring from John Davies whose contribution to the event was much appreciated, even if we didn't really get a chance to say thank you at the prize giving.

Bryan Stichbury, Jon Maslin & Graham Whitehead soldiered on with other engagements and less than perfect equipment variously hampering their efforts. Although I believe all who attended could see the future potential for this class at Frensham Pond.
As usual the Footy racing was conducted in a cordial manner with the top skippers willing to lend advice on set up and sailing encouragement to those further back in the fleet. Many thanks go to all involved, especially Frensham Pond Sailing Club who support this most prestigeous event on the Footy Calendar. The next Footy Event is the Footy  MYA National & Junior Championship, 16th May 2015 at Watermead  MBC, Aylesbury .
