MYA Cadenhead Trophy 2013
Southwater Dabblers Model Boat Club

Picture
Many thanks must go to the organisers of this most enjoyable event, the wind was diabolically fluky, problems with setting the course on waters where unfortunately the club has only limited use of the lake could have led to the event being somewhat fraught.

This was not the case however and the members of Southwater Dabblers and the other assembled skippers from MYA clubs across at least three regions of the country set about making the event one of the most enjoyable  to attend so far this year.
Roger Stollery was on hand to help with the course setting which was set simply between two marks one upwind, one downwind, with the incredibly tricky winds this was all that was necessary to make for a challenging course.
As we have come to expect early on Roger Stollery (17) looked as if he was going to take command in the sailing, it must have come as something of a surprise when Peter Shepherd took three race wins in a row just before lunch and looked as if he may give Roger a challenge for the event win. In the end it was not to be and Roger came away with a comfortable victory.

For the Runners up spot it really was a tough three way battle between Cotswold's David Wilkinson and the two Peters Messers Jackson & Shepherd of Abington Park for the places behind Roger the eventual order being Peter Shepherd (65), Peter Jackson (30) and David Wilkinson (46).

Top man for the Southwater Dabblers was Charles Smith (00) who with some brutal sailing took a win in race 8, he was followed home in sixth place by another Southwater skipper Nick Burden (89). Competing in his first Footy open using his own boat Mike Ewart (36), who made the long trek from Two Islands, Milton Keynes to sail his recently completed Easy 3, for Mike this competition was more a learning experience than anything else. Behind them was Richard Alford (03) sailing Footloose and despite being hampered by the smallest sail out on the lake still managed some creditable performances even if the results didn't really reflect it.
John Cadenhead (88) suffered with a number of equipment failures throughout the day which unfortunately left him retiring after race eleven, he was on hand to present the prizes and his good humour and evident enjoyment of the event was in part what made the days racing such a pleasure to be part of.

Second Place - Peter Shepherd
Winner - Roger Stollery - prizes presented by John Cadenhead
Third Place - Peter Jackson
