A couple of representatives of the host club turned out to very kindly officiate, as usual the Footy Racers observed the rules and carried out their penalties without the need for intervention by the OOD which makes for a very pleasant days racing for all concerned. Bournville were most gracious in their hosting of the event and all concerned had a thoroughly enjoyable day, a special thanks go to Mike Thompson & Chris Harris who officiated the event and helped ensure it was enjoyed by all.
Of the eight skippers in attendance Mick Burnett was the only newcomer to Footy racing at this level, his boat a 1299 was immaculately turned out in one of the brightest shades of colour we have seen for some time, he was also using an Una rig in the style of Marcus Whalin, the combination of 1299 and Una rig sails was a little under sailed at times, especially early on and when the wind freshened Mick's lack of experience showed, however he was never far of the back of the fleet and I am sure with a little more Footy miles under his belt he will make a welcome addition to the Footy fleet.
Seventh for Mike Ewart trying a set of experimental sails early on, his boat seemingly always a little under sailed however the wind really picked near the end and Mike was able to use his long sailing experience to post two third places in races 14 & 15.
Sixth place for Sid Sims, he is definitely one to watch with his 1299 kitted out with the latest spec Soft swing rigs, Sid favoured his "Just'in" rig early on which is undoubtedly his favourite despite coming second in race 8 and posting a number of fourth places he just didn't seem to be able to break through probably because he was over rigged in races 12, 13 & 14.
Fifth place for David Wilkinson, who did better earlier on when the wind was lightest these conditions seemingly suiting the Iambus2 best, however he did switch to a very small rig late on and win the final race when the two Abington Park Peters managed to wipe themselves out!
Fourth place for naughty naughty Charles Smith, who put in a series of creditable performances with the green ICE always there or thereabouts and but for a couple of equipment failures, both coming when he was leading by some way he would have probably managed to have finished at least one place higher in the table.
Third place for Graham Tite, his superb "Posh" sails helping him to a lot of consistent finishes, however he was unable to win a race this is most likely due to the lack of speed his boat appears to exhibit downwind, where if he was in the lead he just seemed to get overtaken by the time the finish line came around.

Second went to Peter Shepherd who was within just one point of his arch rival Peter Jackson by the end of race 7, after lunch (minus his usual can of ginger beer) he changed down to his "A" rig which was probably a mistake as PJ stayed with his "Just'in" and won the first 6 races. Peter Jackson was once again the event winner having won it now for two years running, he was always in the mix and when he did fall to the back he fought his way back into the lead with some superb sailing. It was a well deserved win for PJ and the Red Box.
