Midland Footy League - April 2014 Results
report by Peter Jackson

Well today was the second meeting of the Midland Footy League, and ten enthusiasts pitched up to race.
The wind was from the large lake about south or a little west of south and was as usual a bit spasmodic ranging from twelve miles an hour gusts to zero wind, so it meant a bit of changing sail to suit conditions.
Mike Ewart was doing very well with his 1299 with the heavier keel bulb now fitted, and seemed to have got the best of the Una Rig Sails he was using. David Wilkinson was also competitive with his Iambus design and he tells me he has made two halves of a Slim from Phil Tyler’s moulds.

Peter Shepherd was struggling a little bit (Ed. a lot) with leaky Slim Hulls on both his models, with an occasional first when the hulls behaved (Ed. were empty). A bit of Armatage Shanks Test Tank investigations are required, but you could blame the moulder, which would be me, although when they left me they had an Armatage Shanks test certificate. (Ed. I believe we might be reviewing the test tank proceedure although as I know what this involves it won't be anytime soon!)
Paul Risdale had a better day with his Wice boat, winning race twelve and second in race four and eight. Richard and Andrew Sturt are gaining in experience and with some modifications to their swing rigs will be a force to recon with. Sid Sims is also gaining in race tactics and getting up the middle order, which is gratifying to see.
Geoff Raygada is struggling a little with his Half Pint Too, but was getting better races when he used his Mac Rigs. Tim Lees is struggling a bit at the back of the fleet but with a little help from his friends he will improve. That just leaves me, oh I somehow won the day with my Red Box design made from planked balsa, the frames and drawing are here on the web site, although it’s not the easiest boat I have ever built with the complex curves required.

Thanks go to Peter Wood who was a tad early for this weeks Mixed Fleet but stayed to do the scoring for us which was much appreciated. Peter also provided the video content below.
