It doesn't get any tougher than this with four of the skippers present in with a chance of the event win at the final double points race, two of those Peter Shepherd & Mike Ewart equal on 129.5 with David Wilkinson just a couple of points behind that.
The event got underway with a beat and run course up and down the lake however the B'rig winds shifted around to the west during the day which necessitated the altering of the course to across the lake with a series of three beats around progressively tighter to the wind bouys.
Added to this that they were across a cut in the tree line opposite and it made for a some interesting upwind legs.
A couple of new designs were out there Mike Ewart starting with his Spat! which has an interesting origin to say the least, slightly more conventional is Peter Jacksons F Plan, which is a chine derivative of the Fat Boy Slim. It was initially intended to be an "Easy slim" however it proved to be anything but in the making hence the current monika.
Robin Webb suffered some terminal eqipment failure in the very first race and was left to hang around for the rest of us as he had taken the keys to the club house from Bill Green earlier, Trevor Thomas & Sid Sims battled it out for the minor places although both of them had their momensts in the sun competing up the front and taken some well deserved third places behind the mega battle. In the end it all came down to the final race which was won by Peter Shepherd from Mike Ewart who despite switching to his "NovICE" from race six onwards, overhaulling the points deficit from the start with Spat! still ended up on the wrong side of the final race result.
