Midland Footy League - June 2014 Results
report by Peter Shepherd

With the Northampton Borough Council having done a great job of sorting the land drain out at the topside of the lake and a bit of luck with the weather recently which appears to helped push the blanket weed through the lake everything looked set fair for an interesting days racing.

As the winds were predicted light the course was set as a simple upwind downwind triangle and sausage much beloved by course setters everywhere.

Birthday boy, David Wilkinson (46) Iambus2 made his long journey from Cotswold worthwhile with a brilliant display of sailing to finish with only 19 points on his scorecard after discards.

Peter Jackson (30) once again sailed his SliM and whilst he was unable to get near to David with his impressive sailing he did have an excellent tussle with Mike Ewart (36) with his modified 1299 in the end Peter took second place by just four points.

Fourth came Paul Risdale (53) wICE who continues to sail well and whilst the Footy class isn't his favourite his support for the MFL is much appreciated. With two wins in the first two races I thought it was going to be his day, however he only managed one more win and his other results were too inconsistent to allow him to be up there challenging for the major honours. That having been said he still leads the Dead Tree Trophy.

I had an interesting time with my Razor 3 (65) tussling with Trevor Thomas (58) SliM, Sid Sims (05) ICE and Brian Hawkins (165) 1299 Mod,  in the end that was the order the three of them finished with  me slotting in just behind Sid and in front of Brian.

Trever was sailing his SliM for the first time with a completely new set of swing rigs made especially for the occasion, Sid borrowed ICE and was sailing a set of newly refurbished swing rigs, Brian also has borrowed a club 1299 from us with my last year set of swing rig sails so all three were trying to get used to their new equipment.

The overall table couldn't be closer with at least seven skippers still in with a shout of taking the top honours. Well done David for a good performance this time and thanks to all of you for a very pleasant days sailing.

See you all next time for the fifth round of the MFL  which takes place on the 5th July
